I’m Ryo Fujii, based in Kanagawa, near Hakone.

For more than a decade, I’ve worked as an interpreter and cultural bridge between Japan and Europe.

Today, I also help independent travellers discover places, landscapes and local experiences beyond the usual guidebooks.

Why I enjoy supporting travellers

My work has taken me to factories, television studios, mountain villages and city streets across Japan.

Along the way, I’ve realised that what people often remember most is not simply the destination, but the conversations, unexpected encounters and small discoveries that happen during the journey.

That’s the experience I hope to share.

Professional Background

My professional background is in French–Japanese interpretation and cross-cultural communication.

Since 2012, I have completed more than 2,800 assignments, supporting European companies, executives and media professionals in Japan.

This experience has shaped the way I support travellers as well: with attention to language, context, logistics and the small details that make time in Japan smoother and more meaningful.

A Different Side of Japan

Although I live near Hakone, I’m especially interested in places that reveal another side of Japan — quieter towns, coastal landscapes, rural communities and everyday life beyond the major tourist routes.

Many of these places later become stories in my Perspectives journal.

A Personal Note

Outside work, I enjoy exploring regional towns and playing football with friends.

I’m naturally curious about places that many travellers simply pass through.

Those small discoveries often become the stories I later write about.
